Overworked and Underpaid

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Working in the pharmacy was quite the learning experience. Pretty much all of the training is on the job and you just learn by doing and asking questions. If you need to learn differently, then this job is not for you. You can be understaffed a lot which gets a lot of patients angry with you not realizing how many tasks you have to keep tabs on. There are rarely any moments to breathe between tasks but usually your coworkers are very supportive and understanding because no one else will be. Prepare to have no energy after a shift.

Pros

flexible availability

Cons

worst combination of retail and healthcare, underpaid

Relaxed environment

I would recommend working here as a starter job. Things are smooth and pleasant when you have a nice team and productive management… you get help when needed.

Convenient for students

Not enough pay for all the work that needs to be done but nice that they help students with their schedules. Company does not like OT but needs to understand there is a lot of work to be done that cannot be done when customers are in the store.

A complete waste of time and effort to not be good enough and given no recognition

What is the best part of working at the company?Nothing. Horrible management. Hostile environments depending on location What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lack of hours. Lack of staff. Unprofessional Pharmacy managers. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Hostile and unfriendly. Setting us up for failure instead of success. Practically obsessed with coaching cards and finding reasons to give gross misconduct write ups. As well as getting rid of staffWhat is a typical day like for you at the company?Overstressed. Rushed to the point where mistakes can be made. Put in a state of anxiety every single day.

Fast paced

Was great at first but demanding. Required to meet certain goals which seemed difficult to achieve since there was not enough staff. Made the best of it though.

Reasonable expectations and reasonable benefits

Worked evening shift at a formerly 24 hour location. Got along with staff and the work environment was good. Never felt unappreciated by management or like I was expected to do more than could be done. Obviously there were a lot of customers and it was busy but most were appreciative and respectful.

Poor leadership of the company is doing a great job destroying of what was built for over a century.

Culture has changed significantly since around 2010. Company slowly started to degrade and now it is spiraling down. Best employees has left. Knowledgeable pharmacists either decided to take an early retirement and the rest moved on to a new opportunities outside of the company.

What is the best part of working at the company? The people, and management working with you to make your schedule work What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Communication, unrealistic goals, lack of payroll, safety What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Culture is like high school, if you’re not one if the cool kids, you’re screwed What is a typical day like for you at the company?Long and stressful. A decent job

you get what you sign up for. Depending on the location sometimes the management isn’t the best and it’s very obvious about favoritism. It’s not a career so it was a decent job to get the bills paid.

Decent pay, understaffed

There are staffing issues no support from management or corporate. All they care about is metrics and how to maximize profits. The only reason I put up with this is the decent pay.

Just starting

Just starting I don't know how I feel about it, worked two days, loved working stock, didn't particularly care to be a cashier, but a job is a job. Good money though

Working in Walgreens Beauty Department was a good fit for me beyond their environmental culture.

What is the best part of working at the company?I loved the job-as beauty consultant. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Working with a young-few who we’re allowed to bully others. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Sad/disgusting. The Boss heard one of the Bullies say “If we don’t like someone-we make it hard for them.” Very bad environment working with no team. Boss was dumb. Even Regional managers were aware of this environment. I finally quit. What is a typical day like for you at the company?I came in & put all of my freight away, assisted customers to find their needs & upsold a lot. I loved sales & had great numbers. Usually management wanted me to cover for employee breaks at the front register-also lunches etc. I loved setting up displays & weekly set up interesting displays. Job was fun-environment Not so much.

Poorly managed at some locations. Huge work loads for little hourly wage.

Overall cooperate dose not care about the employees. Impossible to do your job when new useless programs keep rolling out. Not only is it frustrating for employees but harder to explain to patients. There is never enough staffing and the turnover is extremely high. I used to love working in customer service, not anymore. My day consists of constantly apologizing and getting screamed at by people. If you like getting treated like a punching bag this job is for you.

Pros

A few nice co-workers, easy to transfer to different locations, Pharmacy offers certification and vaccine training

Cons

Unpaid short breaks, constant stress, no staff, low pay, outdated systems and equipment

Unprofessional

Unprofessional staff (all staff front end to pharmacy). Unknown who is the person in charge because all higher ups back each other. Dont even bother going to HR with a complaint because it is to be handled in house meaning nothing is resolved. Horrible pay, no hours, no training.
