No work/life balance, but decent people and pay

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Home Depot paid pretty decent during my time there, but in my position there was no way for me to have a set or somewhat consistent schedule, which led to numerous shifts ping-ponging from starting at 5am to 9am, or closing with no real reason. Management was pretty good at my location and seemed to care about the people if you were doing your job right. Not a bad place to work, but not a long term one for me.

Pros

Decent people and pay.

Cons

unpredictable schedule, coverage

Hard work and heavy lifting

They work you hard and you have to do a lot of heavy lifting. It’s not worth $16 a hour to work in lumber department in my opinion pay should be more. If you work there as a cashier or maybe paint department where you don’t have to lift tons it could be worth it.

Not bad

Could be better, idk if they have changed the pay but it wasn’t great and honestly management had no idea what was going on 100% of the time which was frustrating.

A great and unexpected second career

What is the best part of working at the company? The sheer amount of valuable training as a designer, more so than an associates degree. Full 2020 training, NKBA support and more. Plus, benefits are great and the pay much better than I thought it would be. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Juggling design with the trappings of retail. "What size drain pipe do I need for this washer?" EtcWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?Diverse, inclusive and welcoming What is a typical day like for you at the company? Not a minute to slack, which is great!

passable

it was good at the beginning but tends to lend itself to being politically savvy which some people are not or want to be a part of. It allowed me to provide for my family well but not have time with them.

regular retail place

working here has been bitter sweet. you definitely have a lot of opportunity to learn new things but the people and management could be better. but it is what it is .

Great job for people who like monotony

You will be doing the same thing over and over again with very little change. Management is okay, they get paid to much for what they actually do. Hr is surprisingly very handy.

Great work culture!

The Home Depot is a wonderful company to work for. Benefits are decent, and there is a lot of room for growth. You also get good support from your team and management.

Poor Work Environment

I worked in the appliance department. I was there for one month and NEVER got trained, and every shift I worked alone so I had zero knowledge of my job

Productive and Fun

Everyone’s experience is different. But no complaints. Production goals at times can be unrealistic but kept us busy and time flew by. Good pay and appreciated free meals every now and then.

Understanding & Fun Workplace

The upper management were very understanding and engaging. They always had parties to show staff appreciation. If you needed a day off they understood

Unloading

Hiring team needs training not professional. Do not communicate during new hire orientation needed info just how long they have been there and do not

Dislike the self check out update

Being a regular cashier with a register is fine, but it seems that all we do now is direct people at self check out which feels like my job is pointless.
