Role in Saud Bahwan Group envisaged operational responsibility, advisory to Chairman (owner) and developing strategy for future.
Sr General Manager, Head - Chairman's Office (Former Employee) – Muscat – September 8, 2017
With diverse businesses in Saud Bahwan Group and with some interdependence on certain key resources within the businesses in Group made me always analyse the issues/possible decisions from the overall Group's interest perspective and long term even if some of them were going not in for of some business or the other.
Although the Group was more than 40 years old with a lot of professionals, many policies across HR were not in line with the modern management practice. This gave me a lot of opportunity to work on and develop.
A typical day for me was to look at the performance report of different businesses, making insightful comments for Chairman's attention while at the same time providing feedback to the business concerned, arriving at resolution on resource constraints, discussing on new developmental project (in IT, workshops, manpower etc.).
To get the business heads to see things differently in 'out of the box' thinking mode was extremely difficult, however I learnt it to do with enormous patience and persuasion. At times, faced difficult situation to impress upon the Chairman on the need of keeping the morale of employees high with equitable/level playing and fair policies which may have some short term costs.
