Busy 24/7 Time Flies

Great coworkers & my immediate supervisor was very supportive. The GM was a little out of touch, but he left at 5 every day. This location is busy all the time so you are hopping. Guests were mostly tired travelers & just wanted to head to bed. Housekeeping was great so there were rarely complaints about the rooms. Loved my time there.

Ok I guess...

Can't really speak to Highgate due to them just managing the hotel I worked at. Their brand seems pretty standard industry wide. Hotel is now a migrants shelter so I guess their brand is changing...

Good opportunity to learn but comes with long hours (nights, weekends, holidays), chaos and lack of standards.

Overall, Highgate is a good company, I learned a lot and I think they want to see people succeed. However, the unrealistic workload, very long hours all through the month, the lack of support and standards within the department and lack of accountability with other departments made it almost impossible to succeed. Long days, weekends and holidays you are expected to work to meet the unrealistic deadlines and the salary did not meet the expectations. Most of the long hours were spent correcting other people's mistakes and lack of accountability as they were not held up to the same standards as the SA's. Remote position, felt like a work horse, not a valuable part of the operations and not a lot of recognition or respect. PTO taken away upon leaving company.

Pros

Good exposure to general ledger accounting and marketable software skills

Cons

very long hours, disconnected management, lack of accountability

Great company with advancement potential

Working at Highgate is such a great experience. With all of the potential there is and properties to go between you can learn anything you want, train in any department you want, and advance to whatever level you are willing to work towards.

A complete disaster that is only good as stepping stone for most people.

What is the best part of working at the company? The bond between coworkers that is built from pure distrust in management’s ability to be a good leaders. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Constantly being understaffed and overworked while some managers literally sit and watch the hotel spiral out if control. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Extremely toxic with blatant favoritism. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Finding out we are short staffed, with high amount of arrivals. Extra duties given because of short staffing. Managers pawning off their duties to other employees so they don’t have to do them

Overworked and Stressful

After working for Highgate Hotels, all I have to say is it's a very stressful and the locations you work in are sometimes quite dangerous. I was surprised after being hired to find out you don't just work for one hotel but multiple since they are operated by the same General Manager. I only lasted roughly a little over a month just because they overwork their employee's myself included. I was told by management that they have to give you a mandatory 2 days off per week but they aren't set days. There's been multiple times where I've had to work 7+ days in a row and if it days it'd be more understandable still not good but again understandable. But since it was nights it was a different story. Overall just expect to be burned out and mentally exhausted quite fast.

stressful

VERY stressful environment with no support. No training program, they just basically throw you in the fire and you just hope to come out alive no matter the burns & blisters!

Alot of changes and pay is different depends if you know people.

I have great managers for many years but there is always one bad seed. You only get an increase if you move. Big difference for a job with the same role.

na

the job posting did not match the work. Front desk is not the same as night auditor. After being screwed over by a bunch of places, changing the expectations is a huge red flag for me. There was also a lot of wasted time.

Growing company to grow with!

Working with a company that has a strong foundation and leadership that is open minded and supportive of staff is refreshing! Hospitality isn’t easy work but if you are a hard worker with both a competitive and servant leadership work ethic the possibilities are endless with Highgate!

Pros

Hotel perks, grounded management, fun

Poor management and understaffed

Company is so understaffed that they result in hiring individuals with no manager experience, creating even more chaos. Pay is decent, the hourly rate is in the low side and they depend on tips to make up for it.

Pros

Free meals/drinks

Cons

No last break, poor management, poor communication

An amazing HR team

Love my HR team here, everyone is very supportive. However, the market to hire HR support has been tough for the hospitality market so often times you will end up assisting with a lot of hotels which can easily burn you out - no fault of Highgate.
